Collectia is expanding its international network through its membership in LIC

If you’ve ever tried to collect an unpaid invoice in another country, you’re already familiar with the problem. A debt that would be straightforward at home becomes something entirely different once it crosses a border. Suddenly, there’s a different legal system, unfamiliar debt collection rules, a language you may not speak, and local business customs that are hard to understand from the outside.

You’re not alone in finding this difficult. As trade becomes increasingly international, more companies than ever are exposed to cross-border credit risk. And the tools that work in the domestic market rarely translate well abroad. What’s standard in one country may be ineffective in another.

This is work we know well. Through our existing international network, we have been collecting debts across borders for our clients for many years. That work continues. What is changing now is the extent of our reach.

Why Cross-Border Debt Collection Is Different

This is work we know well. Through our existing international network, we have been collecting debts across borders for our clients for many years. That work continues. What is changing now is the extent of our reach.

You’re not alone in finding this difficult. As trade becomes increasingly international, more companies than ever are exposed to cross-border credit risk. And the tools that work in the domestic market rarely translate well abroad. What’s standard in one country may be ineffective in another.

The problem is rarely the debt itself. It's everything that comes with it.

Debt collection procedures vary greatly from country to country. A demand letter that carries legal weight in one market may be meaningless in another. Deadlines, documentation requirements, and the role of the courts differ. On top of that, there is the language barrier and the simple fact that a debtor is far more likely to respond to someone who communicates in the debtor’s own language and with an understanding of local expectations.

If something goes wrong, a debt that could have been collected may quietly turn into a loss. That’s why a local presence matters, and that’s why we’ve spent years building the partnerships that make it possible.

We're expanding our network

To further expand our reach, we have now also joined the League International for Creditors (LIC), a global network of professional debt collectionand credit management companies with members in more than 50 countries.

LIC was founded in 1962 and is one of the longest-established networks of its kind. Its members are independent, carefully vetted companies that have committed to a common code of ethics and possess in-depth local knowledge of debt collection, legal frameworks, enforcement, and the business and cultural conditions in their respective markets. Across the network, members handle debt collection cases totaling several billion euros annually on behalf of exporters worldwide.

For Collectia’s customers, membership adds another layer of local partners to the international capabilities we already offer. When a debtor is located in another country, we rely on a local partner who already knows how debt collection works there. This applies to both B2B and B2C cases, with agreed-upon prices and clear cost control from the start.

More Than Just Collection

The value lies not only in collecting what is already past due. The network also provides access to international credit information. This means that customers can assess a debtor’s financial situation before extending credit, rather than having to chase payments only after something has gone wrong.

It treats cross-border credit as something you can manage, rather than a reactive problem. You can assess risk earlier, make better decisions about who to do business with, and act based on local knowledge when a payment is overdue.

International Trade with Greater Security

Expanding into new markets should be an opportunity, not a credit risk you can’t manage. By combining our technology-driven approach to credit management with the reach of our international partnerships, we help our customers do business across borders with the same peace of mind they have at home.

If your company operates internationally and cross-border payments are a growing concern, we’d be happy to discuss how we can help.
