Your background?

I am a FullStack Developer at Collectia with over 10 years of experience in mobile and web application development. I'm originally from Iran, where I studied software engineering at the University of Tehran. After graduating, I got my first job as a developer in a company called Silvana. At the same time, I was teaching algorithms and artificial intelligence at a university. It was part-time in the evenings and experience that I value today.

After five years in Silvana, I decided to move to Denmark in 2015. And within a few months in Denmark, I started my job in Collectia. My first position in Collectia was as a frontend developer, as I had experience with Angular and JavaScript. However, it was in the form of freelance tasks for the first couple of months before they decided to hire me full time. After that, I got a new position as both a front- and backend developer.

Your tasks in Collectia?

I am currently working on one of our major IT projects. The project is called Debitorlisten and is an online platform that allows users to make credit ratings of companies. At the same time, it allows users to keep an eye on the financial situation of their suppliers and customers through real-time monitoring. This is without a doubt the project that has given me the most experience in my career. The project is incredibly broad and contains many modules in order to function. It is also incredibly interesting, as the project and the solution interacts directly with the end customer. It contains all the elements that all developers should learn in their career. From purchase modules in the online shop, user administration, real-time updating of databases, a sophisticated search engine and much much more.

At the same time, I am also responsible for ensuring that all our internal processes and services to customers run smoothly and without errors. We have chosen to centralize this task in one place. We simply call it the log service, and it enables us to identify potential errors before they affect our customers or damage our internal systems. If I discover errors or inconsistencies, one of our in-house developers can be quickly contacted and will fix the problem immediately.

What is the best thing about your job?

As a developer, and I'm not just speaking for myself, it is essential to keep yourself updated all the time. What I mean is that as a developer you should constantly develop yourself and absorb new knowledge. If you don't do this, you are not attractive on the market, which has a huge momentum. New technologies, systems and techniques are invented every day.

You can't stay in one place as a developer. Every day you have to learn something new. If not, you can't keep up with the market. This really keeps me going. I don't feel stuck in one place. I have to move forward and learn something new all the time. That's why I never get tired of my work. In particular, I find the work with artificial intelligence, which is becoming more and more important in our development projects, really interesting. The world is full of data. And we are at a crossroads in the way we use it. Today, most companies use algorithms to make decisions. But going forward, we will let data make them. The magic of machine learning and artificial intelligence is to let data sets and history make decisions and predict the future. If you have a strong data foundation, you can really improve your business by relying on historical data.

Why did you choose Collectia?

In fact, I had my first job interview in Collectia after I came to Denmark. And I really felt that they were welcoming and friendly. As a foreigner at the time, it was incredibly important for me to be welcomed and at the same time not drown in a big organization. These hopes, I felt, would be fulfilled at Collectia. Fortunately, this was true. The company has a flat organizational structure that encourages everyone to voice their opinions and present their ideas and dreams. I was called for several interviews, but I had already found my match. So, naturally, I chose to join Collectia.
