Credit status
Credit Status is an online platform that allows creditors, banks and lenders to gain insight into customers' current loan and debt conditions. Developed by Norwegian Experian, formerly known as Ribers Kredit Information(RKI), this solution offers an overview of existing credits with participating lenders.
What can Credit Status be used for?
Businesses and lenders can use Credit Status to access a customer's existing credit agreements if the information is available and relevant. The platform also allows you to view information about the borrower's name, address, number of credit agreements, loan types, when the loans were originated, and original principal amount. Credit status can also show whether loans or credits are in arrears, which is important for assessing the customer's payment history.
In addition, Credit Status makes it possible to verify whether a customer's debt has been repaid, either within the last six months or as an ongoing credit agreement. This gives businesses and lenders a powerful tool to make thorough credit assessments and reduce the risk of extending credit.
Who reports to Credit Status?
In September 2024, there were 13 banks and lenders connected to the Credit Status platform that report information about their customers' credit. These include, among others:
- Bank Norwegian
- COOP Bank
- Express Bank
- Ikano Bank
- Nordea Finance
- Santander
- Spar Nord
This list may vary over time as more lenders may join or some may leave the system.
Difference between RKI and Credit Status
Many people mistakenly believe that RKI and Credit Status are two sides of the same coin. Both services are indeed created by Experian, but they serve different purposes. While RKI primarily serves as a register of defaulted debt, Credit Status shows all current credit agreements, even if they are not in default. However, you can still see if a credit is in arrears on Credit Status.
It is therefore important to understand that while both tools can be used for credit scoring, Credit Status is more focused on current debts, while RKI records defaulted loans.
Access to your own credit status
As a private individual, you can access your information on Credit Status by logging in with MyID. Here you can see all your active credit agreements and recently repaid loans. However, it is only possible to view information if your bank or lender is one of the participating parties in the Credit Status system.
