Register of Deeds

The Danish Official Gazette communicates important, legally required notices with legal effect for private individuals, companies and public authorities. The Danish Agency for Civil Affairs, which is now part of the Ministry of Justice, is responsible for publishing the Official Gazette.

The history of Statstidende dates back to 1904, when it was published in printed form. Since 2005, Statstidende has been available exclusively in electronic form at Statstidende.dk, where you can still find relevant information about citizens, companies and authorities.

What information is published in Statstidende?

In Statstidende, notices with legal effect concerning private individuals, public authorities and companies are published.

This includes, but is not limited to, notices of bankruptcy, estate closing, foreclosures, debt restructuring, reorganization, estates of deceased persons, summons, subpoenas, and notices from the royal family.

Typically, notifications about estates, bankruptcies and foreclosures will be most relevant to most individuals and businesses.

Where can you view Statstidende?

Until 2005, Statstidende was published in printed format, but now it is only available electronically at Statstidende.dk, where it is updated every weekday.

Official Gazette and debt collection

For debt collection companies, Statstidende is a valuable resource as it contains information about bankruptcy estates and estates of deceased persons, which can be crucial in ongoing debt collection cases.

If you have a debt collection case against a private individual or company, it is important to regularly check whether the person in question is listed in the Danish Official Gazette. This can affect the progress of the case.

For example, if the Danish Official Gazette publishes a notice of bankruptcy, it is essential to follow the instructions found on Statstidende.dk, including contact information for the trustee and guidance on how to make a claim against the debtor's bankruptcy estate. The same applies in the case of estates of deceased persons.

What is a proclamation in Statstidende?

A proclamation is a specific type of notice in the Danish Official Gazette that is issued upon the death of a person.

The purpose of a proclamation is to inform about a death, which is particularly relevant for creditors or their collection agencies/lawyers who have an ongoing case against the deceased. A creditor or their representative has the opportunity to make a claim against the deceased's estate, i.e. the estate of the deceased.
