Data validation

Data validation

Data validation refers to the process and work involved in validating data.

Every day, thousands of data validations are performed when you enter information about yourself or when companies use your information.

Data validation can be done in many ways - from manual processes to fully automated systems that update and validate your data from different data sources, such as CPR, CVR etc.

Why do data validation?

Every day, thousands of pieces of information about citizens and companies in Denmark are validated - often with the purpose of cleaning and ensuring that the data we have about our customers, citizens or business partners is correct and up-to-date.

Because let's be honest: When people enter information about themselves or others, mistakes can happen - from deliberate errors to simple typos. These mistakes can have major consequences for both the company and the individual consumer who entered the information.

If a customer enters their information incorrectly or incompletely, the company risks sending the customer's goods to the wrong place - and the customer will not receive their goods.

In addition to typos, data validation is also often used to update existing data - for example, to ensure that the information you have about your customers or partners is still correct.

For example, if a customer has moved since the last transaction, you as a business will rarely be informed of this - unless you continuously perform data validation of your information.

What data is validated?

Basically, you can validate all types of data - from economic and financial data to customer data.

In our experience, the vast majority of data validations are done at the customer data level, i.e. customer information and generalia: name, address, etc.

How do you do data validation?

There is no single answer to how data validation should be done. If you have few customers, validation can (almost) be done manually. However, if you have many customers and transactions, a more automated solution will often be necessary.

To validate your data, it's important to be able to compare it to a source. That's why you often need to use the CPR or CVR register if you want to validate customer contact and address information.

You can also choose to work with a service such as Qatchr, which has integration to CPR and CVR, among other things.

With Qatchr, you can validate your customers' information in a quick and easy way.
